Two Obituaries on Ira A. Haney

Died.

HANEY-At his home near Harveyville, Monday, January 10th, after a sickness of nearly a year, Ira Haney, aged 68 years.

Mr. Haney was a native of Ohio, being born at Youngstown April 17,1834. He was married in 1860, served three years during the rebellion in Co. M. 3rd Wisconsin cavalry. Mr Haney had been ill a long time, and his sufferings were intense. The services of many friends and all that medical skill could do availed but little and death was a relief to him. Mr Haney was a member of the G.A.R., Harveyville post escorting the body to the depot and Oskaloosa post conducting the funeral ceremonies. The body was interred at Oskaloosa. A wife and five grown children survive him and have the sympathy of all in their bereavement.

Ira Haney’s Death.

Ira Haney, formerly of this place, but for two years past living in Wabaunasee county, died at his home last Monday and the remains were brought here Wednesday and interred at Pleasant View, services being held at the M.E. church conducted by Rev. W.H. Young.
Mr Haney was wounded in the leg in the war, and we understand that death resulted from that old wound, having been aggravated by a hurt received when some seats broke down at the re-union at Topeka last Fall. Mr. Haney was a good, honest man. He leaves a wife and several children, nearly all grown.

Ira Haney was born at Youngstown, Mahoning Co., Ohio, April 17, 1834. He enlisted in the Third Wisconsin cavalry, company M.,on the 2d day of March, 1862, and served three years during the war of the rebellion. He died January 10, ’98,aged 63 yrs., 9 mos. And 23 days.

Our father has gone to rest-
Gone to that beautiful shore
Where, there are no tears nor sorrow,
But joy and peace forevermore.
Our father is only asleep-
Asleep to wake nevermore
Till our Savior comes to waken
To rest on Heaven’s cloudless shore.
